Shifting a 2-day workshop into a modernised online format has been an issue faced by many global companies in the last few years. For Beca Engineering, their Amplify Delivery Work Package Manager & Job Manager Programme was ready to be renewed and brought into an online and collaborative format. Brought in as the key learning consultant, Clare joined the Amplify Delivery L&D team, to help redesign the programme into a customizable, online learning solution now offering 14 two hour online workshops for JMs and WPMs to upskilll on key topics when and where they want to. Each topic consists of pre-work, an online workshop, and applied learning through a set of post-work tasks supported by an assigned Delivery Buddy.

Created through an agile process, Clare’s role in this design and implementation has included helping with the overall design concepts to ensure learning theory was applied throughout. From there, Clare helped to get the ball rolling by designing the initial instructional design, evaluation, and communication process templates for the  initial launch and roll-out.

Within each topic, Clare continues to be the key learning specialist to help the instructional designers design the content. Alongside this, she’s responsible for bringing out the best in the Topic’s facilitators by upskilling them in online facilitation techniques and provides regularly coaching to help them achieve facilitation success.

What they had to say

Jonathon Yu, Senior Associate Project Manager, Beca Engineering

“Since the beginning of 2021, Clare Horrobin has been a key part of our team in redesigning and implementing Beca’s Amplify Delivery learning and development framework and programmes. Clare has provided consultation on each key stage of the project, initially helping us to define the project scope and overall framework structure.

A large part of her focus was to advise on how best-practice learning philosophies and trends could be applied to meet our learning objectives in an engaging, accessible, and sustainable manner. This included a transition to designing workshops for online facilitation, and to spacing out the learning to provide better integration and opportunities for participants to apply their learning.

From there, Clare has been a member of each Agile topic team, providing guidance on instructional design, facilitation and on-going implementation.

Clare’s vibrant and welcoming personality has helped each team to gel and perform well by establishing a fun, trusting, and energetic culture.  Her regular online facilitation sessions have seen a significant increase in our facilitators' confidence and competence in facilitating online, creating a better balance of delivering great content alongside effective engagement that sustains their audience’s participation. Throughout this process, she has become a trusted advisor to many of us, helping us all to create and cement learning throughout our programmes.”
